The megapixel barrier has been once again broken on cameraphones, courtesy of Sony Ericsson’s new Cyber-shot S006 handset, that will be sold by Japanese  carrier KDDI starting next Spring. Odds are that this handset will never leave Japan, but maybe some other company will sell it internationally.

The sensor on the device is a 16.4 megapixel CMOS one, with ISO settings up to ISO 12800. The rest of the specifications on the phone are pretty good as well:

CPU: Snapdragon, 1GHz
Display: 3.3 inch screen (VGA apparently, but it could be HVGA or WVGA)
Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS

Too bad that this device runs Sony’s proprietary OS, that’s non-smartphone material and we learn that the S006 is a KDDi exclusive.
