MWC 2011 wasn’t only about innovation, but also recognition so the GSMA announced the winners of the 16th Annual Global Mobile awards. These were held in Barcelona at the GSMA Mobile World Congress. An awards ceremony was held to honor the participants and the event was hosted by British TV and radio presenter Jonathan Ross.
Grammy award winner Duffy and indie back Metric rocked the crowd, while the awards had no less than 600 entrants. Among the ones who picked up prizes we must mention Rovio/Clickgamer/Chillingo, with their addictive game Angry Birds, that was named “App of the Year on the Apple platform”. The app of the year on the Android platform was Google Maps, bringing a prize to the search engine giant.
Rovio got another award, for best mobile app, with Angry Birds scoring again, while the best mobile device was considered the iPhone 4. HTC got the “Manufacturer of the Year” award, which is strange, because the iPhone got the credit for the best handset… Right here you can see the full list of prize winners, if you’re curios.
