Google found its time to detail the next-gen Google Docs during the Atmosphere event, hosting 400 CIOs and IT professionals from all over the world. This event was dedicated to cloud computing and it also included discussions about the Google Docs improvements, thanks to a new codebase and richer features.
The upgraded Docs comes with an extra margin ruler, better numbering and bullets, easier image placement, due to more available options, plus a formula editing bar, present in spreadsheets. The latter will also support auto-complete, drag-and-drop columns and other functions that weren’t available in older browsers.
Google also mentioned that the document upload feature has been greatly improved, making the file moving process easier, specially from your computer to the cloud. Imported documents will keep their original structure, so there’s no need to fix formatting. JavaScript processing has reached a new level and that will be felt in the new Google Docs, thanks to a speed upgrade, that will be useful when working with very large spreadsheets.
Up to 50 people are now supported in the collaboration feature of Google Docs and they’ll be able to work together at once. More details can be found here.
Since cloud computing is a huge part of the internet world nowadays it would be a good idea to have a good cloud security program installed on your PC that can prevent hacking, phishing and viruses from infecting your computer.
