The European Commission is preparing for the implementation of WiMAX and LTE standards and their associated networks, by reserving 800 MHz bands. The EU authority has chosen this set of bands in order to avoid harmful interference and we have to mention that such frequencies are being freed up as part of the initiative to switch from analog TV to digital television.
Member States are required to make available the 790-862 MHz band for electronic communication services, while studies have shown that the management of this spectrum could bring the EU countries a boost of up to EUR 44 billion. With this decision, the Member States will reach the goal of implementing high speed broadband all across Europe by 2020.
The estimated speed for 2020 will be 30Mbps and above, plus this technology has the advantage of a cheaper infrastructure (70% less costs) than the one used by 3G frequencies.
