David Wang, a famous hacker also known as “planetbeing” has managed to port Android on the iPhone 3G, as you can see in the following video. This took a couple of weeks of work and DIY action, but now you can use Android OS on Apple’s handset, to browse the web, run any app that doesn’t require audio support and send/receive texts.
David promised to post the needed instructions and binaries in a couple of days, for you all to mess with them. Improvements have also been made, compared to the original port: bugs were fixed, the WiFi driver now works with all Android-specific extensions and overall the solution is more stable. There’s also an Android icon added in the boot menu, for more accessibility.
Future versions will include audio support on the iPhone 3G, better power management and backlight control.
