For once, the comic folks of The Onion have got it right with the Y!phone pictured below. On Monday, Yahoo will hold a press event, with the purpose of announcing the company’s cooperation with Nokia, supposedly on the application market.

CEO Carol Bartz has an “exciting announcement” to make concerning “rich online and mobile experiences”. All Things Digital thinks that the announcement involves Yahoo apps and services being incorporated into Nokia devices, with email and search included. This cooperation seems to go as “Project Nike”, being named after the Greek goddess of victory.

This doesn’t mean that we should expect to see a Yahoo! phone, but this is as close as it gets nowadays… Partnering with Nokia is Yahoo’s best chance of competing with Google in the mobile segment, specially with Android going so strong. Nokia refuses to comment on the matter at the moment.
