Qualcomm has finally started shipping its dual-core Snapdragon processors, we’ve learned, but it still remains a mystery which is the first company to receive these components. The Mobile Station Modem MSM8260 and MSM8660 Snapdragon chipsets for smartphones were announced back in February 2009 and they’re capable of running at up to 1.2GHz.
MSM8260 supports HSPA+, while MSM8660 brings support for multi-mode HSPA+, 1xEV-DO Rev. B, while both units integrate GPS, a GPU with 2D/3D acceleration engines for Open GL ES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1. 1080p video decoding and encoding is also supported, plus a low-power audio engine and 24 bit WXGA 1280 x 800 pixel displays.
Will we see a reference design of the product at Computex 2010? Apparently, Qualcomm is preparing yet another generation of more powerful Snapdragon CPUS, this time meant for slates and tablets.
