AT&T has just announced yet another Android handset, an expanding segment in the carrier’s portofolio. The new model is Samsung Captivate i897, pictured below and available “in the coming months”, possibly for a price that shouldn’t be higher than $199.99 (the 16GB iPhone 4).

Samsung Captivate features a 4 inch WVGA Super AMOLED display, it runs Android 2.1, supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, A-GPS and Google Mobile Services (Android Market, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk and more). There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack on board, a 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, a 1GHz processor and 16GB of internal memory, plus a microSD card slot.

With the launch of this device, AT&T can finally claim it’s selling a high end Android smartphone, but it has a long way to go before reaching Verizon or T-Mobile in this segment.
