The IcePhone is not a SubZero-related (Mortal Kombat) device, but rather a Swiss Army Knife-style handset, whose name stands for “In Case of Emergency Phone.
This device comes with 3 independent panels that allow you to fit a full QWERTY keyboard to the main body of the smartphone, but also a 3 inch touchscreen, a mouse tracker pad and gaming console controls.
The size of the main body is similar to the one of a Nokia E90 and the attachments can be integrated with the aid of folding hinges. The IcePhone’s specs are also impressive, as it supports GSM quadband 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, GPRS/EDGE and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA UMTS 2100 connectivity and uses a Freescale iMX31 532 MHz CPU.
Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro is the OS of choice on the IcePhone, which also incorporates a 3.1 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, GPS, WiFi b/g, a 1250 mAh battery and the above mentioned 3 inches display with a 240 x 400 pixels resolution (TFT touchscreen). Expect it to hit the UK in the Spring of 2009 and Thailand soon for a little under $1000. There’s also an “Ice” button on it, for emergencies. An unbelievable device, truly!
