A bunch of recent online rumours point towards the Android 2.2 upgrade coming to hot smartphones like Moto Droid, Droid X and HTC Incredible starting August 6th. These are all Verizon material, so the carrier might get busy in the next week, trying to get the software release out.

Android Spin has the scoop on this piece of news, claiming that a trusted tipster close to Verizon mentioned that the official Android 2.2 will be pushed to all three handsets on said date.

The rollout will be finished by August 15th, it seems. Verizon, HTC, Moto and Google are silent on the mater for now, but we wouldn’t mind a pleasant surprise next week.
