USA Today has a report showing that the US Army is planning on giving each soldier a smartphone to use on the battlefield. These devices will become a vital piece of the soldier’s equipment, according to Michael Vane, director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center.
The program that will integrate gadgets in the daily routine of soldiers is called Connecting Soldiers to Digital Applications and it’s already being tested at Ford Leonard Wood, Fort Still, Fort Lee and Fort Bliss, Texas. Many other electronic devices will reach the Army, like iPads, Kindles, Nooks and mini-projectors, according to USA Today.
Smartphones will provide soldiers will real-time intelligence info, next-gen mapping systems and means of advanced communication. No exclusivity with any carrier has been mentioned yet and it’s unlikely the US Army will make its own smartphones. Before the program is on its way, some security issues must be addressed and then they’ll be all set.
