HTC officially unveiled the long-awaited Touch HD smartphone yesterday, one of the best handsets ever created and a definite iPhone rival. HTC already has huge hits on sale worldwide, like the Touch Diamond or Touch Pro, available for $249 and $299 respectively in the US (with a Sprint contract and $100 mail-in rebate).
But what is the hype all about? Well, this phone has got it all, be it connectivity, internal memory a hot touchscreen, anything you need…
HTC Touch HD measures 115 x 62.8 x 12 mm, weighs 147 grams, which makes it heavier than the iPhone and supports WCDMA 900/2100 MHz, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, HSUPA and HSDPA connectivity. It also comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, mini-USB, GPS (with Google Maps) and a superb 3.8 inch TFT-LCD touchscreen with a 480 x 800 pixels resolution that surely surpasses the iPhone’s display when it comes to quality.
There’s also an impressive 5 megapixel camera on the specs list, that can record videos and it’s accompanied by a second VGA CMOS camera used for video conferencing. As far as memory goes, Touch HD comes with 288MB of internal storage space plus an 8GB microSD card bundled with the device. Taking a look under its external shell, we find a Qualcomm 7201A CPU (528 MHz) that’s able to run Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smoothly.
Last, but not least, the battery of the HTC iPhone killer deliver 7 hours of 3G talk time and 8 hours of GSM chatting, 140 minutes of video call and 28 days of 3G standby/18 days of GSM standby. For now, Touch HD is available in Taiwan through Taiwan Mobile for about $776.
