Remember the announcement of the Google-supported WebM video format? Well, it’s back and here to make a stay, thanks to the Android 2.3.3 update, launched today. We remind you that the Android upgrade has just reached Google Nexus One and Nexus S, but it’ll take weeks to roll out to all devices.
This format is seen as the next step towards killing Flash and any other alternative (hear that Apple?) and reaching a common web video format for all platforms. Could this be the reason why the Motorola Xoom is launching without Flash support?
When WebM was first detailed, Google said that it means to move YouTube towards this format and integrate it into the video encoding apps. How long do you reckon that will take?
