When all hope seemed lost for the Android 2.1 Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, its maker goes out and announces an incredible Gingerbread update for the handset. This contradicts the previous statement of the company, saying that the X10 range won’t get a full firmware update in the future.
Thus, the X10 will receive Gingerbread, with unlocked models being favored, while carried-bound ones will get selective software upgrades. Sony Ericsson’s officials are claiming that they’ve listened to their customers and want to offer the latest OS for the Xperia X10 owners. Rollout will start near the end of Q2 and early Q3 this year.
We must mention that through this update, the Xperia X10 will lose face recognition and smile shutter, plus Mediascape, DRM keys and the Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore client will lose support. Gingerbread will arrive through the Sony Ericsson PC clients and not over the air, while downgrading will also not be supported.
