Nokia has now turned Ovi Maps into a 3D tool for viewing the greatest cities in the world, straight from your browser. The novelty came today, following Nokia’s announcement of an Indoor Navigation service, that will help you get around once inside buildings. Back to the 3D view of Nokia Ovi, you should access maps.ovi.com/3d to see what I’m talking about.

Nokia partnered with C3 in order to deliver this solution and in case the name of the company doesn’t sound familiar, know that this is a leading provider of 3D mapping solutions. C3 relies on modern cameras that are able to capture one image per second of the same object, but from 100 different angles.

The result is very accurate tridimensional map, thanks to image processing software that uses the pictures taken to create 3D models of buildings, houses and other landmarks. The resolution is 8 to 12 centimeters per pixel and the quality is incredible, as shown in the video below. If you ever though that Google Maps and Bing Maps look cartoonish, it’s time to take things up a notch with Nokia’s latest Ovi Maps 3D. The list of cities shown in 3D includes New York, Milan, Barcelona, Miami, Helsinki, London and many more.
