An ARM Holdings official recently gave some juicy details to PCWorld, concerning the company’s plans. Turns out that the Cortex-A15 chipset is in the works, reaching up to 16 cores in some configurations and being available as 2.5GHz processors for smartphones, among others.
The news comes shortly after Samsung announced that it will release a dual core 2GHz handset next year. ARM chips have been the most wanted piece of technology available on portable gadgets, thanks to their low power use, among others. You must know that ARM doesn’t build the chips itself, but rather it licenses the technology to companies like Nvidia, Samsung, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm.
Right now, TI and Nvidia have licenses for the Cortex-A15 design for future mobile chips.
