Reuters informs us that AT&T is at great risk, in case the T-Mobile takeover fails. The official documents say that in case the regulatory approval doesn’t go through, AT&T would owe Deutsche Telekom, the owner of T-Mobile USA, $3 billion in cash, plus AWS spectrum and a roaming agreement that benefits both parties.

Reuters sums it up, calculating the bill for the free spectrum at $2 billion, while the roaming deal is another $1 billion. The total is a scary $6 billion that will hurt AT&T more than losing the iPhone exclusivity probably. Wondering if the regulatory committees feel the pressure of such amounts of cash when they take decisions concerning the fate of big companies…
