Reuters informs us that AT&T is at great risk, in case the T-Mobile takeover fails. The official documents say that in case the regulatory approval doesn’t go through, AT&T would owe Deutsche Telekom, the owner of T-Mobile USA, $3 billion in cash, plus AWS spectrum and a roaming agreement that benefits both parties.
Reuters sums it up, calculating the bill for the free spectrum at $2 billion, while the roaming deal is another $1 billion. The total is a scary $6 billion that will hurt AT&T more than losing the iPhone exclusivity probably. Wondering if the regulatory committees feel the pressure of such amounts of cash when they take decisions concerning the fate of big companies…
We’ll just have to wait and see…
