If you’re familiar with the BlackBerry family of products, you might know that BlackBerry OS 7 is supposed to be followed by QNX OS on the smartphones made by RIM. That’s what we heard a while ago, but don’t blame us if there will be a last BB OS 8 after all. This time we get confirmation from RIM’s Mike Lazaridis that QNX phones will exist after all.

The OS will reach high end smartphones made by the Canadian company and these were confirmed as future models with multi core processors. RIM is already working on prototypes according to Carlo Chiarello, the handset maker’s VP of GSM/UMTS section. We expect 2012 to be the time frame for the debut of such products, but nothing is for sure at this point.

One thing we could do is keep an eye on upcoming events, but I’m pretty sure CES 2012 will show us multicore BlackBerries with QNX OS.
