Samsung has just started sending out invites for a Google-related event that’s most likely the perfect opportunity to announce the long rumored Samsung Nexus Galaxy (Prime) handset). Also, we might witness the launch of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS on the same date.

October will be a very hot month, as the iPhone 5 will be unveiled on October 4th and a mere week later the first Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone will become a reality. Taking place at 11:30 AM in San Diego, the unveiling is advertised in invitations through a short tagline: “what’s new from Android”. Nexus Prime has been rumored for a while now, but it has yet to be confirmed, although Samsung sending a cease and desist to someone using the handset’s firmware meant that it’s very much real.

We’re expecting a dual core 1.5GHz device with a 4.5 or 4.65 inch display and maybe with a 720p resolution, according to rumors. LTE would also make a fine addition to it, as well as an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and a nice battery life. This is the follow-up to HTC’s Nexus One and Samsung’s Nexus S, so it will have to something really, really special.
