As you may already know, AT&T plans to sell the Nokia Lumia 900 for $99, an incredibly hot offer for a modern smartphone with the latest in Nokia design and Microsoft software. Now we get a look at the insides of this device, so we know what to buy. Tech Republic tore down its review model, in order to confirm the hardware on the handset was mediocre, as suspected.

Although the design is appealing and the software is… well, let’s say original, the specs are a bit outdated here. The device comes with a single core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM, 16GB of storage, no microSD and a 800 x 480 4.3 inch AMOLED display. The CPU comes bundled with an Adreno 205 GPU and Qualcomm supplies the MDM9200 3G/4G wireless modem, while at the front we find a 1MP camera. The battery is a 3.7V 1,830 mAh Li-Ion unit and after going through all the codenames and components, we can’t seem to find the main camera, the 8MP sensor at the back. It’s mentioned on the list, but not detailed, that’s the problem…

What Tech Republic also noticed is that the handset is bigger and heavier than the competition, it’s got good build quality, so it’s tricky to open. The screen is deemed good, but not great, while the amount of RAM and CPU are called “average”. It’s got less storage than its rivals, like the 32GB on the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One X that just launched in Europe. It will also provide less talk time than the rivals: 7 hours compared to the 12 hours of the Galaxy Nexus and 8 hours of the iPhone 4S. Be sure to check out Tech Republic for more info!
