If you have $1890 to spend and you live in Canada, you should know that now you can purchase the Porsche Design P’9981 handset, a luxury piece of gear with BlackBerry branding on it. RIM executive officer Thorsten Heins and Porsche Design Group’s Juergen Gessler unveiled the device locally, during the opening of the Porsche Design Store in Yorkville, Toronto.
This device uses premium materials in its design, stuff like forged stainless steel for its frame, hand wrapped leather for the back cover and a sculpted QWERTY keyboard. It also has a crystal clear touchscreen, according to its makers. The handset even uses a custom Porsche Design interface, plus the Wikitude World Browser augmented reality app experience. There’s also a premium, exclusive PIN available for the customer, identifying him as the owner of a Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone made by RIM.
If you want hardware details, know that the phone measures 11.3mm in thickness, weighs 155 grams and uses a TFT touchscreen with a 2.8 inch diagonal and 640 x 480 pixel resolution, plus an optical trackpad and 8GB of storage. 768 MB of RAM, HSDPA (14.4 Mbps), Bluetooth 2.1, Wifi, NFC and a 5 megapixel camera are on board as well. The OS of choice here is BlackBerry OS 7.0 customized as I said above and it runs on top of a Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon 1.2 GHz processor, with Adreno 205 graphics.
