It’s been a great day for Windows Phone users yesterday, as Microsoft released some goodies for them and even reached an understanding with Google, as far as their services are concerned. Microsoft released Windows Phone 7.8 as an update to all Windows Phone 7.5 users and this new software version is 7.10.8858.136.

It brings to the devices new features such as the new Start screen design with 3 Live Tile sizes, 20 accent colors and the Bing daily image on the lockscreen. Microsoft expects the rollout to be complete at the end of February. There will be a notification on your device, as soon as the update is available. Unlike Windows Phone 8, WP 7.x doesn’t offer support for over the air updates, so you have to connect your device to the computer and rely on Zune, sadly.

There’s other news too: Microsoft and Google reached an agreement regarding the decision that Google took to drop support for Exchange ActiveSync. Turns out that Google will postpone that and still allow the likes of Google Mail, Calendar and Contacts to be used via ActiveSync for a while. Support for those will still be turned off, but only in July. Finally, Microsoft updated the Windows Phone desktop app to Preview 3, that improves the content transfer system between a PC and Windows Phone 8 handset.
