The main basis for mobile network providers has become the Android OS as its the most versatile. Had one provider opted to offer only iOS or BlackBerry devices it would ensure fast failure as none of those even comes close to the offer the manufacturers are providing on the Android platform.
Virgin Mobile hasn´t had it in for collaborating with the not-so-well-known manufacturers for Android devices but it seems they are looking for a change in perspective. From Kyocera we haven´t seen offers in the top end side of the market and their Event smartphone for Virgin boast a modest configuration at best. It is one of the devices that is likely to be offered for a symbolic price or even for free on the basis of a two year contract.
The Kyocera Event is a low-end smartphone by today´s standards. It features a 3.5-inch IPS panel that offers the HVGA resolution. The device is powered by a Qualcomm chipset clocked at 1 Ghz and with 512 MB of RAM. The smartphone measures 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46-inches and weighs 4.1 ounces. It comes with Android 4.0 ICS, offers 4 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expansion and promises talk time of 8.7 hours and standby time of 6.25 days. It will be an exclusive for RadioShack starting on March 3.
