An interesting LG patent has come out today, one that actually dates from back in 2010. I’m talking about a smartphone patent that involves 3 displays, one acting as the main one and the other 2 as sub displays.

This reminds me of several PSP concepts I’ve seen in the past with a similar layout. There was a time when everyone was looking to replace the sliding keyboard with yet another screen, that slides. However, that trend never came to life. The USPTO filing mentions in the case of LG a “display device in a mobile terminal and method for controlling the same”.

As shown in the sketch, you get your main display and the two sub display to left and right. This device can use customizable applications and one example involves a camera and a left sub display as the image gallery, while the right one includes the camera functions and options. Will this format become catchy?
