Sapphire seems to be all the rage lately, especially when talking about the future iPhone. Well, you should know that there are some phones out there that already use such sapphire glass screens.
In case you’re wondering why the sapphire is so popular, know that it’s extremely tough and almost impossible to scratch. It’s expected to be one of the selling points on the iPhone 6, by the way. Luxury phone makers have been using sapphire screens for a while now, an example being the Vertu Ti model, shown above.
This one is an Android smartphone, that costs around $11k, so it’s basically the equivalent of two cars for many people. That model combines leather, stainless steel and sapphire glass for the people obscenely rich. I expect that in the future more premium materials will become standard, once the production process becores cheaper. Carbon fiber and wood anyone?
