Samsung announced today a brand new processor, the Exynos 7 Octa, a 64 bit 8 core CPU, that may make it to the Galaxy S6 next year. This is a chipset that features 4 ARM Cortex A57 cores and 4 lower power ARM Cortex A53 cores.
The company behind it claims that this chip is 57% faster than the older Exynos 5 Octa processors. The cores offer support for big.LITTLE HMP architecture, meaning they can run simultaneously and the new chip is based on a 20 nm process, which feels antique, considering TSMC is already playing with the 10 nm process. In the graphics section we’ve got the ARM Mali T-760 GPU.
Samsung Exynos 7 Octa supports resolutions up to 2560 x 2560, 4K video playback, H.265/HEVC, 16 MP main cameras and 5 MP front shooters. To be honest, the CPU doesn’t sound that impressive and I’d find it weird for the Galaxy S6 to be stuck at 16 megapixels. What do you think?
