We know that Skype failed to be integrated within eBay and it’s a serious budget hole for its buyer, but now things might get even uglier, as Google readies a similar service. Known as Google Voice, this is a revamp of GrandCentral, bought by Google back in 2007.

Originally, this was a service that allowed users to manage their personal phone and have one central number plus a centralized voicemail box. Voice will feature low cost Internet calls, SMS sending and receiving, free calls for US users and voicemail services (transcripts included).

GrandCentral users will get the chance to test the new service, before it goes official and we wonder when Skype will go back to being the VoIP king.
