Huawei has confirmed this week that the Ascend Mate 2 phablet is going to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and that will happen in the first half of 2015. Following the users’ feedback, the company has approached a new upgrade strategy.

At least that’s what Huawei is saying, leading me to believe that initially they didn’t plan on offering Android 5.0 on this device. Ascend Mate 2 will jump from Jelly Bean straight to Lollipop, without passing to KitKat. This is a 4G LTE unit with a 6.1 inch display and a price tag below $300. The product was launched in January this year, so it’s almost one year old.

It measures 9.5 mm in thickness and offers Dolby Mobile acoustics, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and a 13 megapixel camera. We’ve got a Snapdragon 400 quad core processor inside, while upfront there’s a 5 MP selfie camera. I’m pretty curious if after the update the UI will still be Emotion UI 2.0, or a superior version….
