Linshof is a German company that had a very appealing phone and tablet among their projects, but both got canned, as the company announced that they were shutting down everything. We were pretty excited by the idea of an 80 GB phone or tablet with 8 core processors and prices between $300 and $400.
The company was very ambitious about the project, so we’re surprised it shut down. Their phone was called Linshof i8 and comes with a 5 inch Full HD display, an aluminum case and a mystery octa core CPU, clocked at 2.1 GHz. It could be a Snapdragon 810 or some MediaTek, but there’s no way of telling for sure. This model also comes with a 13 megapixel back shooter, a 3100 mAh battery and HDMI out.
Since all of those are priced at $380, they sound brilliant and to top it all, Linshof also had a tablet coming, a model called Linshof Performance. The slate packs a 10.1 inch 2048 x 1536 pixel display, 3 GB of RAM, an octa core CPU of the same sort as the phone and 80 GB of storage. The price for this device is $360. Linshof decided to close the projects, as its investors backed out “for internal reasons”.
Nobody was hurt in the process, since the German company didn’t accept preorders, donations or investments and all the payments were fine.
