We informed you last year that Sony sold its Vaio section to the Japan Industrial Partners and they had plans to launch a smartphone branded Vaio this year. It should have happened this month, but instead it will happen in February. In the meantime, the packaging of the device has leaked and it’s shown below.
We’re dealing with a brick-like plain black box with the usual Vaio font and engraving on top. It will be very interesting to see if the huge prices of the Vaio laptops are applied to the new smartphones. There have been many months since Sony sold Vaio to the JIP investment fund, so something has been brewing there for a long time.
Last I heard, the Vaio phones were going to run Android and sport 5 inch screens. Something tells me we’re going to get phablets as well, maybe even some with Windows 10 and maybe some that combine the laptop and smartphone format, like we’ve heard after the Win 10 announcement.
