Intex, a company from India has just announced a new smartwatch, a model dubbed IRist, that’s pictured below. The device doesn’t look half band and it’s priced at $188, which is certainly smartwatch value.

The wearable is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and no Android Wear, as expected. At least it comes with the Play Store preinstalled and all of its apps available. The IRist also integrates a 3G SIM card slot, so it’s more like a wrist phone than anything else. It can send and received texts and work independently from a handset. There’s an app in the mix called iConnect, used to sync up with smartphones for notifications, calls and such.

Intex IRist has a 1.56 inch screen, with a resolution of 240 x 240 pixels and a layer of Sapphire glass is included here for scratch protection. Inside the watch we find 512 MB of RAM, plus a 1.2 GHz dual core CPU and 4 GB storage. Even a microSD card slot made, plus a 5 megapixel camera on the right, explaining the bulky nature of the model.

A 600 mAh battery has been included by Intex, good enough for 240 minutes of talk time. The product starts selling in August on eBay India.
