Last we heard, the pre-alpha Fennec was running on a HTC Touch Pro handset 3 months ago, but now Mozilla went out and launched the Alpha 1 version of its browser, compatible with Windows Mobile 6.

The new version brings stuff like a new add-ons manager, a new downloads manager, a new CSS based theme, TraceMonkey (Mozilla’s new JavaScript engine), jemalloc (memory management library) and a faster application start-up time. Faster panning and zooming are also supported, as well as easy navigation to web content, via the smart URL bar, tabbed browsing (with thumbnail images) and easy access to search engines.

As far as security is concerned, you can use a password manager, a popup blocker, clear private data and use an instant web site ID. In order to install Fennec you need to use a device running Windows Mobile Professional 6.0 or greater and click here to download what you need. Step by step instructions can be found here.
