According to a recent report cited by Digi Times, LG Display plans to build a new OLED factory, in order to meet expected market demand as of 2017 onwards. We get to know that the investment rise up to $4.2 bilion, money that will be used to construct new facilities in Paju, South Korea.
Later this month, the company will hold discussion in order to finalize the decision and to decide on the fab generation. The report also reveals the fact that LG has been ramping up production and investments in OLED to meet the upcoming demand for smartphones, TV and tablet devices.
Apparently, this new factory will start producing panels sometime between 2017 – 2018. It remains to see if LG will also launch more products with such panels inside, as at the moment not many of their devices are using this technology.
