In case you’re wondering what the cheapest phone in the world is, the answer is Freedom 251, the device handled below by the guys of PhoneBunch. It’s a smartphone with dual SIM slots and Android, if you can believe it, priced at just $4.
This model has a 4 inch IPS display with a 960 x 540 pixel resolution, a quad core 1.3 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM, as well as 8 GB of storage. There’s Android 5.1 in the mix and 3G connectivity, plus a microSD card slot, a 3.2 megapixel back camera and a front 0.3 MP shooter. The battery is a 1450 mAh unit and in order to achieve the crazy good price, this project received financing from the Indian government.
Reservations for the handset have started and deliveries will happen by the end of June. As shown in the video below, the device has pretty big bezels, a rounded design and a Home button with a metal ring around it. The Indian flag is engraved on its back. There are quite a few apps installed and the UI is pretty fluid, at least at first sight.
