Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was unveiled at MWC 2016, together with the Galaxy S7, as the curved screen version of that model, with a bigger diagonal. The S7 Edge started shipping just days ago and we unbox it for you below. It’s priced at around $750 and $800 and comes with a box that closes magnetically.
Inside it we find a charger, USB cable, manual, metal key for slots, headphones and their plugs, plus a special USB adapter meant to transfer content and data from an older device. We’re testing the 32 GB gold version of the phone with an Exynos 8890 processor inside. The display on board is a Super AMOLED Quad HD one with a 5.5 inch diagonal and dual curved edges.
This time, the edges get more virtual space for displaying items, icons and full fledged apps, double the amount from the S6 Edge. Galaxy S7 Edge comes with an octa core Exynos 8890 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 32 or 64 GB of storage and a microSD card slot, an addition that wasn’t present on the predecessor. We’ve also got a Dual Pixel back camera with 12 MP resolution, OIS and F/1.7 aperture.
Upfront there’s a 5 MP selfie camera and this model measures 7.7 mm in thickness, plus it weighs just 157 grams. The battery has evolved very much from the S6 Edge, with a capacity of 3600 mAh and fast charging. There’s Android Marshmallow in the mix, with the latest TouchWiz, a fingerprint scanner upfront and pulse scanner at the back.
Samsung has made this model water and dust proof and it keeps the back glass shell, this time with curved edges at the back too, like the Galaxy Note 5. There’s a slightly protruding metal frame, to increase the grip of the phone and improved its premium look.
