We reviewed the Huawei Honor 4X a few months ago and found it to be an excellent midranger. Now the successor has arrived, the Huawei Honor 5X and we unboxed it below. The handset was launched in November 2015 and it’s priced at $200 on Amazon.
This is a dual SIM phone with a fingerprint scanner at the back and a metal chassis. Inside the box we find the charger, USB cable, headphones, metal key and manuals, plus stickers. The device measures 8.15 mm in thickness and weighs 158 grams. This is closer to a phablet than a phone and it comes with a 5.5 inch display with Full HD resolution, plus an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, with Adreno 405 GPU.
Honor 5X comes in gold, white and gray and packs a 3000 mAh battery, a 13 megapixel back camera and a front 5 MP shooter for selfies. On the connectivity front there’s LTE and GPS and finally we’ve got 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. A microSD card slot and Android 5.1.1 round up the specs list. Emotion UI 3.1 is available on top and the camera UI is pretty minimal and includes a Good Food capture mode for foodies.
The metal chassis feels nice to the touch, so it’s quite elegant for a midranger. We’ll be back with a full review soon. The updated price is here.
