We knew ever since the end of the summer that MediaTek was thinking of bringing forth a new flagship chipset, the MediaTek Helio X30. Today that chip became real, as a deca core 10 nm unit with 8 GB RAM support. A new Helio P series unit was also announced.
As far as the X30 goes, it comes with 10 cores and the TSMC 10 cm processor. It replaces two of the ARM Cortex A72 cores of the predecessor with fresh ARM Cortex A73 cores, clocked at 2.8 GHz. The rest of 8 cores also get clock boosts. Helio X30 brings about a 53% improved power saving and 43% increased performance from its predecessor.
It also comes with 8 GB of LPPDR4 RAM support and up to 28 megapixel cameras. In lieu of the Mali T880 GPU of the X20, this time we get the PowerVR 7XT GPU, that offers 2.4 times the performance. This chip will go into mass production in the first half of 2017 and the newly unveiled P25 is basically a higher clocked P20, with unknown specs just yet.
We do know that it bumps up performance by 20% from the previous model.
