Ever since BlackBerry’s CEO announced that the Canadian phone maker was pulling out of the smartphone biz, we’ve been hearing a lot about the company’s swansong, one last touch and QWERTY phone with Android. After it gets done, the firm will switch to outsourcing and today we’ve come across live shots of the newcomer. It’s known as the BlackBerry DTEK70 tentatively, or codenamed Mercury.
The handset surfaced on Weibo in hands on shots this time, after also appearing in renders a while ago. It also graced us with a benchmark leak in October, as it popped up in GeeBench 3. There it was listed with 3 GB of RAM, an 18 megapixel back camera, 32 GB of storage and a 4.5 inch HD display, paired up with a physical QWERTY keyboard.
The phone also has an 8 megapixel front camera and supposedly the keyboard also integrates a fingerprint scanner. There are also rumors about Android Nougat being on board and we may see this phone ready in the first quarter of 2017. Since it’s the swansong of BlackBerry, the next models with this brand you’ll see will be made by third parties from China probably.
Expect a hefty price.
