Usually battery phones launched over the past years sacrificed a few features in favour of simply having a beefy battery. We’ve played with at least 3 battery phones from Allview and loved the P8 Energy, so now it’s time to handle the Allview P9 Energy, which is actually a familiar face, being a locally integrated Romanian version of the Gionee Marathon M6. It’s priced at $412.
Inside the box we find the manual, screen protection, SIM pin, headphones and plugs, charger, USB cable and USB OTG cable. You can use the smartphone as a power bank to juice up other phones and even tablets. This is a dual SIM model with a 2.5D glass panel upfront and it’s made 97% of metal (aluminum and magnesium). The screen is an AMOLED Full HD 5.5 incher and inside the device there’s a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
These are quite generous specs for a battery phone, that’s why I said things are moving up for the segment. We also get a microSD card slot and a main 13 megapixel camera that’s familiar, because it features the Sony IMX258 sensor from the OnePlus X and Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus. The front camera is an 8 MP unit and back to the front there’s a fingerprint scanner here, integrated within the Home button.
Allview also mentioned there’s a split screen feature here, which we can’t wait to test. Allview P9 Energy runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a custom UI and also provides an infrared emitter at the top, used to control appliances, TVs and such gadgets. It’s been a while since the last battery phone we’ve tested, so we can’t wait to see what this one does.
