The variety of ASUS phones puzzles us. We’ve barely settled with the idea that the latest models are the ZenFone 3 units and there are already rumors about the ZenFone 4 and now there’s a new ZenFone Max in town. The ASUS ZenFone 3S Max didn’t come up on our radar till today, when we uncovered it has been reviewed by the likes of GSMArena and Android Pure.

This is a 5000 mAh battery phone, better specced than the ZenFone 3 Max and its 4100 mAh unit. It runs on Android Nougat and provides a 5.2 inch 720p display, with a 2.5D glass panel and an octa core MediaTek MT6750 CPU inside. There’s 3 GB of RAM here, a hybrid dual SIM slot and a 13 megapixel main camera, plus a front 8 MP shooter. In spite of being a battery phone, this model is 175 gram heavy, which is not bad at all.

As far as the reviews go, they agree that the phone easily provides two days of intense usage, but it charges slowly, at around 4 hours. It’s got a decent enough camera, not on the level of the ZenFone 3 for sure, but certainly better than the ZenFone Max. GSMArena got over 10 hours of screen on time from it in Performance mode, but much more can be achieved with different battery settings.

This ZenFone 3S Max unit can also function as a power bank, juicing up other devices. More details can be found in the reviews here and here.
