We’ve tested a lot of Chinese startup phones and now we’ve come across a new brand, Bluboo. We’ve unboxed their handset below and uncovered a very interesting back texture of the Blubook Picasso 4G back. Priced at $86 on GearBest, the phone gets taken out of the box below.
This is a 5 inch compact smartphone, that comes bundled with a manual, USB cable and charger. We’ve got a 2.5D glass panel upfront and the display offered a 720p resolution. Inside the smartphone there’s a quad core MediaTek MT6735 1 GHz CPU, as well as 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The Picasso 4G is a dual SIM unit, that runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a slightly customized UI.
There’s also a microSD card slot in the mix and even at this price, somehow we have 4G LTE connectivity. At the back of the handset we’ve got an 8 megapixel camera, that can take 13 MP shots in interpolation, while upfront we have a selfie camera with 5 MP resolution and LED flash. Interpolation lets you take 8 MP selfies. The battery is a pretty generous 2800 mAh unit and all of those are crammed within an 8.9 mm thick chassis.
Official specs also mention a 113 gram weight, which sounds great, although in real life the phone feels heavier. NFC is also available, yet another plus for a sub $100 phone and we also get a Sony sensor for the camera. Bluboo promises a zinc alloy frame here to make the device sturdier. All of those will be put to the test over the next days, as we review the phone.
