HTC U11 was unveiled in the middle of May and right when it debuted we got some hands on time with it. Today we’ve scored it for review purposes and an unboxing can be seen below. We’re dealing with HTC’s 2017 flagship and also their very first waterproof and dust proof flagship. Still, the interesting feature promoted here is Edge Sense, which lets you squeeze the edges to trigger apps and functions.
Priced at $649, this handset is made of glass and metal, with a 3D glass panel at the back and one upfront. Inside the device’s box we find the cleaning rag, an USB Type-C cable, charger, a case and the hi-res USonic headphones with plugs. There’s also a metal key used to access the slots and an adapter (USB-C to 3.5 mm). The last item is supplied on account of the lack of audio jack on the smartphone.
The acoustics are expected to be top notch here, because we get BoomSound HiFi and a tweeter at the top, plus woofer at the bottom. We also have 4 microphones, for 360 degree audio capture. This is a 7.9 mm thick smartphone, that weighs 169 grams and comes with a 5.5 inch Super LCD 5 display, with a Quad HD resolution. We also get 4 GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 835 CPU, 64 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 3000 mAh battery.
There’s also a microSD card slot here and on the optics front, there’s a 12 MP back shooter, with Ultrapixel 3 tech and OIS, plus F/1.7 aperture. Upfront we find a 16 megapixel camera, with F/2.0 aperture. There’s LTE Category 16 support here, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi and USB Type-C. This device is available in blue, silver or black and it offers support for Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and HTC Sense Companion.
All in all it sounds like a pretty complete package, but we’ll see if HTC really has a winner over the next few weeks. You can get the device here in the meantime.
