Sharp has a new phone out and it’s certainly a looker! The Sharp Aquos S2 just became official today, during an event taking place in Beijing. The machine is promoted as full screen and it’s as close to that notion as it gets, coming with an 87.5% screen to body ratio.
It’s bezel-less on 3 sides and at the top the front camera integration reminds me of the Essential Phone. Sharp Aquos S2 relies on a 5.5 inch screen panel with an amazing 4K resolution and also uses the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset. There’s also a cheaper Full HD screen version. It has 4 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and 4 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The device actually has two versions, one with a Snapdragon 630 CPU and one with a Snapdragon 660.
The quantity of RAM is also different for the two models: 4 GB and 6 GB, as well as the storage (64/128 GB). The screen panel is an IGZO made by Sharp and at the back we find a dual vertical camera, with a 12 MP + 8 MP sensor combo. Inside the handset there’s a 3020 mAh battery and other specs include NFC support, dual SIM slots, SUB-Type-C and a microSD card slot.
The dimensions are excellent here, with 7.9 mm in waistline and 140 grams in weight. The basic model, the one with a Full HD screen costs $370 and brings 4 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 630 CPU. The higher end model is priced at $520.
