Sony brought its A Game to Berlin and IFA 2017, launching the fall flagship Sony Xperia XZ1, that marries Android Oreo with a Snapdragon 835 CPU. The newcomer is very similar to the Xperia XZ Premium, at least in design, but it takes things down a notch, to a 5.2 inch Full HD screen.
At least the display still gets HDR, Triluminous, X-Reality and so forth. Inside we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot and upfront we find two stereo speakers. The design is totally similar to the Xperia XZ Premium, but the handset is slimmer, with a 7.4 mm waistline.
The Xperia XZ1 brings Gorilla Glass 5 protection upfront and it’s available in Black, Warm Silver, Moonlit Blue and Venus Pink. It’s got a side mounted fingerprint scanner, within the Power button and it’s also IP68 certified for dust and water resilience. There’s LTE Category 16 here, WiFi dual band with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C, as well as a 2700 mAh battery.
The 13 megapixel selfie camera and the 19 MP Super Slow Motion back shooter are most likely the same from the Xperia XZ Premium. The front cam has a 22 mm wide angle lens and F/2.0 aperture, while the main camera offers 960 FPS slow motion capture, 4K video and laser focus. Steadyshot stabilization was also kept. A novelty is the option to scan objects in 3D, available within the camera area.
The Xperia XZ1 comes in single SIM and dual SIM versions and it’ll run Android Oreo from the get go. This means we get the picture in picture mode, notification channels and dots and more. The smartphone becomes available from September 19th, priced at $699.
