Here we are again, with a fresh unboxing, this time the one of the most compact flagship of 2017, Xiaomi Mi 6. The handset has a mere 5.15 inch screen, which is tiny considering other companies have 6+ inch displays on their top devices. Anyways, this handset was actually one of the first, if not THE first to be sold with a Snapdragon 835 CPU. It’s priced at $400 and we unboxed it below.
This machine debuted this Spring and it’s available in black, white or blue. It features the typical “glass sandwich” design, with a curved glass panel upfront and one at the back, joined together with a metal frame. Inside the handset’s box there’s the USB Type-C cable, charger, USB Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter, a transparent case, manual and metal key to access the slots (SIM tool).
As you can tell from the adapter, there’s no audio jack here, but we do get an extra: an infrared emitter at the top. That’s used to control set top boxes, TV sets and other devices. This smartphone measures 7.45 mm in thickness, weighs 168 grams and packs a 5.15 inch Full HD screen with a 1500:1 contrast ratio. It’s got a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 64 or 128 GB of storage and it doesn’t use a microSD card slot, just in case you were wondering.
Inside it we also find a 3350 mAh battery and there’s support for Quick Charge 3.0 on board. At the back we find a dual 12 megapixel camera with 4 axis OIS and F/1.8 aperture, as well as two tone flash. The second camera has a telephoto lens and selfies are being taken with an 8 MP front shooter. This is a dual SIM machine that runs Android Nougat with MIUI 8 on top, with a minimalistic UI and no app drawer.
Other stuff worth mentioning is the support for MU MIMO WiFi and the phone’s splash resilience. It’s one of the most compact units I’ve wielded lately and we’ll be revealing how powerful it is over the next few days. You can get it here:
