Xiaomi unveiled today a new selfie phone, that just debuted in India, with a $140 price tag. The newcomer is dubbed Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and it packs a 16 megapixel shooter upfront as the selling point.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 has a pretty familiar facade, since it’s basically the same with the one of the Redmi Note 5A, that was previously offered on sale. It has a polycarbonate case, although at first sight it looked like metal. The selfie camera features a wide angle lens, with a 76.4 degree angle, plus its very own LED flash and F/2.0 aperture. There are beautifying features here, as well as 36 filters to apply to our pics.
The device packs a 5.5 inch HD screen and Gorilla Glass 3 protection, as well as an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. There’s a microSD card slot in the mix, dual SIM card slots and 4G LTE. The main camera has a 13 MP resolution, LED flash and F/2.2 aperture. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top and inside we can find a 3080 mAh battery, that should offer a pretty good usage time.
This handset doesn’t make use of the new fangled USB Type-C connectivity, opting for microUSB instead.
