Today is the big day of March 27th, the date when Xiaomi, Huawei and Apple have all scheduled press events. Xiaomi kickstarts things with the release of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S, a smartphone that feels like a flagship, even though it’s not yet time for the Mi 7.
Follow-up to the Mi MIX 2, the handset packs an IPS display with a 5.99 inch diagonal and Full HD+ resolution. It’s got an 18:9 aspect and a 1500:1 contrast. There’s also support for DCI-P3 colors, HDR and a special mode that protects eye sight. Inside the smartphone we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU, with Adreno 630 GPU. Interestingly there’s no microSD here, but you will make do with the 64, 128 or 256 GB of on board storage.
RAM comes in 6 GB and 8 GB versions. On the camera front we find a dual back shooter, with a main Sony IMX363 12 MP sensor, with F/1.8 aperture, accompanied by a Samsung S5K3M3 telephoto lens, with 12 MP resolution. They offer Dual Pixel technology, for ultra fast focus and also a technology called Multi Frame NR, which lets you take multiple pictures at once and combines them to reduce noise.
AI Scene Detection is also here and the phone has already been awarded a very good score from DxOMark Mobile. Only the main sensor has OIS and the front camera is a 5 MP unit, placed at the lower bottom right. It even has its own Portrait feature. Battery-wise, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S packs a 3400 mAh unit, with support for Quick Charge 3.0, wireless charging too. Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will start selling in China soon, in these 3 versions:
- 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage – 530 dollars
- 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage – 575 dollars
- 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage – 640 dollars
