The iPhone 3GS is surely a hot item to purchase, but HTC Hero might just be the best phone of 2009, so who takes the crown? Phone Dog has a 3 part video duel of the two smartphones, revealing which handset rules and which… rules less:

As most of you might have guessed, the Hero has the upper hand in this fight, although the iPhone’s App Store is seriously cool and can’t be matched by the Android Market. Also, the iPhone 3.0 OS and its multitouch interface can’t reach Sense UI’s sexiness, although they come close.

A painful chapter is the Adobe Flash support on Hero, still a huge minus of the iPhone 3GS (and any iPhone for that matter). The iPhone 3GS comes with a bigger display, with a 3.5 inch diagonal, versus the 3.2 inch of Hero, but the new HTC Android phone’s resolution is better (480 x 320 vs 320 x 480 pixels).

The camera duel is also won by HTC Hero, that packs a 5 megapixel sensor, while the iPhone 3GS only comes with a 3.15 megapixel camera. Safari is very cool on Apple’s phone, although it lacks Flash technology for now. We can’t say who wins the speed duel, since the CPUs are pretty close (600 MHz on the 3GS and 528 MHz on Hero).

Both devices weigh the same (135 grams), both pack a digital compass, while Hero has a little bit more RAM (288MB), when compared to the new iPhone (256 MB RAM). Also, while the iPhone is protected by a water and oil resistant oleophobic coating, the new HTC comes with a teflon coating and scratch proof display. Who wins the duel, in your opinion?
