I won’t lie to you, I didn’t quite like the Huawei Mate 10 Lite and neither did I like its 4 cameras on board. They were OK at best, but certainly not memorable. The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a lot to do to wash that sour taste from my mouth and the Huawei P20 Lite already started, at least camera-wise. Let’s see the Huawei Mate 20 Lite unboxed below.
The handset is priced at $400 or even less lately and it came to us in a beautiful blue version. It’s all shiny and glossy, premium build and the back side actually reminds me of the Mate 10 a bit. Inside the box there’s the charger, manual, headphones, SIM key, USB Type-C cable and screen protection. Available in blue, black or gold, the smartphone does have a notch, a wide one, that integrates the two selfie cameras.
Huawei Mate 20 Lite packs a 6.3 inch IPS LCD display, with a Full HD+ resolution. There’s a Kirin 710 CPU in here, accompanied by an i7 coprocessor, plus 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, plus a microSD card slot. Huawei Mate 20 Lite runs Android 8.1 with EMUI 8.2 on top and it looks rather typical, if you’ve seen a Huawei handset before. The smartphone measures 7.6 mm in thickness and weighs 172 grams.
It has WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, USB Type-C connectivity and an audio jack. Camera-wise, we get a 4 pack, with two back cameras that combine a 20 MP shooter with a 2 MP one. There’s F/1.8 aperture, PDAF, Contrast Focus and also AI. The front side features a 24 MP + 2 MP shooter with Bokeh catpture and a cute Qmoji 3D feature, that applies 3D avatars/masks to your face. By the way, Portrait/Bokeh is available for the main camera too.
Huawei Mate 20 Lite packs a 3750 mAh battery and it gets juiced up with 9V/2A from this charger. We have AI functions for the cameras, with support for 22 scene recognition and recognition of objects. My first impression? The Huawei Mate 20 Lite looks much better than the predecessor, has a promising CPU, AI features for the camera and a promising set of cameras in general.
