Looking for a mighty GPS phone and you’re afraid to try a Garmin-Asus smartphone? You can always rely on Pharos Traveler 137, that recently got reviewed by the guys at Crunchgear. Right from the get go, we learn that the device comes with a huge 3.5 inch 800 x 480 pixel touchscren display, that’s finger compatible and also supports a stylus.
Since this is a Windows Mobile device, the virtual keyboard is a tad small to type on, but at least navigation is easy to handle, thanks to a trackball and 4 app buttons. Since this is a GPS phone, battery life will disappoint you, specially if the Bluetooth and WiFi are draining it constantly.
The Crunchgear reviewer claims that a mere 6 hours of having the Pharos Traveler 137 laying on the desk will completely drain its battery, because of the connectivity settings. This changes after you shut down the WiFi and Bluetooth, so you’ll get about 12 hours of texting and web browsing, which is OK.
Even GPS quality wasn’t top notch, since it took the device 15 seconds to lock on, even outdoors. Thank God for the fluid interface, but this might not justify the huge price ($599.99), even if the phone is unlocked.
